Do you often get a sense that no matter where you are on your path, something always seems to feel off?
Like there’s a constant hum of anxiety driving a need to change, pivot, or end the worry that you’re not truly safe in the world.
Or you’re so entrenched in an endless list of activity that only leads to more mental complexity and physical exhaustion.
This is the Shadow frequency of Gene Key 43.
The 43rd Siddhi of Epiphany leads you to the final breakthrough of consciousness possible. A complete surrender of personal identification and the recognition that consciousness itself is all that exists.
But, you can’t predict or make this breakthrough happen. It’s something that occurs spontaneously when you give up altogether.
To truly allow this deep surrender to occur is to embody the 43rd Gift of Insight and service to the whole. This is where you stop listening to the status quo and step into your creative genius. You cut a new pathway without worrying where it’s taking you.
All anxiety drops because you forget about the future altogether and become a conduit of creative Insight.
In this post, I’ll share my interpretation and personal insights of this 43rd Gene Key, in my own words. This is one of the more challenging Gene Keys to grasp, so I hope I can shed some light.
I have quite a unique perspective of this Gene Key, because I have it as my Core/Vocation Sphere in my Hologenetic profile.

So, you could say that insights, breakthroughs, and epiphanies are my genius and the gifts I offer the world. It’s also the reason I named of my brand “Keys to Insight“.
Not only that, but the only channel I have defined in my Human Design body graph is 43/23 – The Channel of Structuring. Aside from meaning I’m a Mental Projector, the 43rd Gene Key/Human Design Gate and The Channel of Structuring are pretty significant to me.

With that said, here’s my breakdown of the 43rd Shadow of Deafness.
The 43rd Shadow: Deafness — The “Noise” You Can’t Hear
At its core, the 43rd Shadow of Deafness shows up as a constant fear and anxiety of being fundamentally unsafe in the world.
It locks us into the idea that external security is essential to achieve peace and happiness. Whether it’s securing a stable job, business, relationship, or the “right” amount of money, we believe that true fulfilment will only ever happen in the future.
But Deafness, in this sense, isn’t an inability to hear; it’s the noise of a mind stuck in survival mode that drowns out profound inner truths.
We’re death to these inner truths because our frequency is attuned to the collective frequency of fear, which is true for all shadow frequencies. For the 43rd Shadow, it’s the fear of not fitting in or of being an outcast.
At the Shadow frequency of Deafness, all we want is change, but change is denied because we’re trying to make it happen. The problem stems from one’s fixation in taking away our own uncertainty.
At the Gift frequency, Gene Key 43 is all about service! When we follow our true path and serve a greater good, we go beyond worrying about our own uncertainty. At the same time, it provides a sustainable means of exchange, growth, and fulfilment, which are all essential for true happiness. However, it’s not happiness founded upon external validation, it’s about recognising our value and esteeming ourselves forward from within.
What keeps us stuck at the Shadow level is a deeply unconscious fear of rejection.
The fear we anticipate if our truest nature gets rejected causes us to reject ourselves before others can reject us first. This is what influences us to act or speak in ways that results in getting or feeling rejected by others. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
We may want that purpose-driven business, a soul aligned relationship, or optimal health and wellbeing, but if moving closer to them confirms our fear that we’ll be rejected, we’ll consistently set ourselves up for failure.
This is what keeps most of society stuck in survival and living on the breadline, because we’re simply unable to be at peace in the stillness.
Some may even achieve a great sense of external security and success in life only to feel more empty inside.
This is the great breakthrough of the 43rd Gene Key: the realisation that no amount of individual freedom or wealth can fill the void. The fear was never the real problem; the Deafness to the fear was.
“This breakthrough occurs when you begin to face the fact that you simply don’t feel comfortable in the world.” – Richard Rudd, The Gene Keys
Repressive Nature: Worried
This is the “internal noise”. The mind goes round and round in circles, trying to figure out how to escape the worry.
My Personal Insight: This manifested in my life as an obsessive search to find my authentic calling. But the worry was actually a distorted signal coming from my intuition. It led to a desperate need to feel seen and heard for the gifts I could offer the world. I got tangled up into one activity after another, because I was trying to find something that resonated with my true identity but also enabled me to fit into society – which is actually impossible. I’d attempt to establish business success to get recognition and boost my self-worth before stepping into a business that was more aligned to the highest version of myself. Many of us will attain an endless amount of knowledge and credentials to prove we know enough to be worthy of our genius. But this just adds to the noise. This is actually symbolic of gaining wisdom and closing knowledge gaps, in fear of being “found out” that we don’t have all the answers. It’s imposter syndrome rooted in the belief we need to be an all knowing expert.
The shadow self and true self are in a constant battle between unique and authentic service to the whole and compromising their highest calling to fit into the world.
Reactive Nature: Noisy
This is the “tendency to simply keep talking”. These individuals aren’t trying to communicate; they are “simply trying to deafen themselves from hearing the way they feel, which is miserable”. They end up feeling “misunderstood or outright rejected”.
My Insight: To follow our truth and embody the “rebellious genius” within takes great courage. At best, our unique and authentic selves got ignored or invalidated when we were young. At worst, our individuality was judged and criticised, making us feel alien and wrong, and that we should change ourselves to be accepted.
